The Nave at Exeter Cathedral - part of the Exeter Cathedral virtual tour

Virtual Reality photography (VR) is a superb way of placing people into an environment and allows them to interact with it. This type of imagery goes one more than the saying that photography speaks a thousand words as this type of image speaks millions.

360°vr images can be grouped together into Virtual Tours providing a great tool for showing people around establishments online from the comfort of their home, office or now even mobile devices. Virtual tours can also be displayed on interactive screens, kiosks, television panel's etc...

These images are a great tool when marketing property for sale or rental. I have produced many of these images for estate agents, holiday homes, hotels etc... and they have proved to be of great benefit to my clients.

Also a superb tool for education. Many schools, colleges and universities use this type of imagery for advertising their facilities. I have produced many of these images for the University of Exeter over the years proving to be very popular on their website. Not only that but VR photography can take the classroom to locations all around the Uk and the world without costly field trips.

The list of applications for 360°vr photography and Virtual Tours is endless.

For interior VR photography I often produce HDR imaging, click here for more info on HDR.

360°vr images and Virtual Tours can be displayed in a number of different ways. The most popular way of displaying these images on a website is with Flash. Most computers already have Flash installed and the images work straight away without confusing prompts to download plugins. My images also work on iOS devices such as iPad's and iPhone's using HTML5.

Other methods of displaying 360vr images include Apple's QuickTime, DevalVR and Java though these are rarely used now..

The graphics on top of the image, known as the 'skin' can be customised to your requirements as clearly shown in the above tour of Coombe House, to the left of the College of Enineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences and below showing area hotspots on a floorplan. Please click on the images to view the tours.

Flash is currently the most supported technology for 360vr virtual tours, though HTML5 is quickly becoming more popular especially in mobile devices so should also be used. 'Sniffer' code is used to the detect the device the tour is being viewed on and displays the most appropriate version. iOS devices such as iPad's and iPhone's don't support flash.
