One of the more prominent features of Dartmoor is the tiny church perched on top of rocky outcrop at Brentor. There are various versions of how the tiny church became to be built clinging precariously to the volcanic outcrop. You can read about them on the Legendary Dartmoor website. Brent tor church sits at a height of 1130feet/325m on volcanic rock, below the granite tor are the remaining earthworks of what is described as an Iron Age hillfort. This has been tentatively dated to the late Iron Age (150BC - AD 50) and its earthworks can be clearly seen on any aerial photograph. To view an aerial photograph of the area here is a link to one on Google Maps.
